The role of airport cities in enhancing global connectivity was a key subject in a special event at the international property and investment trade fair, EXPO Real.

The British Investment Breakfast, which took place in the UK & Ireland Pavilion at the event in Germany, debated key issues impacting on the global, UK and North of England economies including Brexit, the future of the Northern Powerhouse and foreign investment.

Lynda Shillaw, Chief Executive of Airport City Manchester JV partner, MAG Property, highlighted the company’s unique position in the airport property sector and, in particular, the progress being made in positioning the North West as a major hub for global commerce and industry.

She was joined on the panel by Sir Howard Bernstein, Chief Executive of Manchester City Council, Ged Fitzgerald, Chief Executive of Liverpool City Council and Chris Taylor, CEO of Hermes Real Estate and the former BFF President.

EXPO Real is a three-day event held at the Messe Munchen in Munich. Attracting industry professionals from across the globe, the trade fair covers key issues in the property sector and provides an ideal showcase for innovative developments and forward-thinking regions.

Lynda Shillaw said: “The panel discussion demonstrated the expertise and passion that exists in the UK property industry and the ambition of the North of England to be a key influencer in the evolution of global connectivity.  There was a positive reaction from international delegates who attended the breakfast event who were keen to engage in our debate and discover the views of the UK property industry.”

She added: “The event was also an excellent opportunity to focus on Airport City Manchester and its importance to global business.  Sustainable and dynamic globally-connected developments are at the heart of ensuring the UK can maintain and grow its position in the global economy.  By providing excellent connectivity and facilities that not only deliver high quality premises for businesses, but can also help them expand and develop their operations, airport cities are essential hubs for international trade and industry.”
