Bee in the City design unveiled at Airport City Manchester as part of 80th birthday celebrations

As part of June’s #FarFlungFridays Platform pop-up food event, the design for the Bee in the City was unveiled by Lynda Shillaw, CEO, MAG Property and Fiona Wright, Customer Services and Security Director at Manchester Airport, which was a specially arranged party to celebrate Manchester Airport’s 80th birthday.

To mark the 80th anniversary of Manchester Airport, staff, passengers and customers were invited to a sneak preview of our Bee in the City at a birthday themed Platform event at the Ground Transport Interchange.

Wild in Art and Manchester City Council are bringing all of Manchester’s communities together for Bee in the City, one of the most spectacular public art events the city has ever seen.

More than 100 Bees are being created with each Bee designed by a different artist and celebrating the unique buzz of Manchester, from its industrial heritage to its vibrant music scene. They will all be unveiled later in July and in their respective locations for nine weeks, before being auctioned off.

During the event, over 600 people enjoyed their usual dose of entertainment and delicious food - showcasing foods from around the world including Mexican, Chinese, American and some tasty sweet treats served by local traders; La Casita, Oh My Glaze, Sweet Mandarin, Vinnie’s and Azulito Coffee.
