Simon Eastwood, Managing Director, Carillion Developments, discusses the investment in Airport City Manchester

At Carillion we saw Airport City as an excellent opportunity to invest in a huge project, which has an estimated gross development value of around £800m, alongside some great partners.

Carillion’s involvement with the Airport City project cements many long standing relationships with MAG, GMPF and Manchester City Council, and brings a welcome new partnership with BCEG.

What was particularly appealing was the international connection, via the airport, to markets across the world. This differentiates it from most other property opportunities in the region and will help protect us from fluctuations in the market as there is always demand for airport related property activity.

For me this is one of the most exciting projects I’ve been involved in during my 30 year career in the industry – opportunities of this size don’t come around very often and to be involved in something of this scale, which requires structuring, joint ventures, funding streams and cooperation from all parties involved, has been very fun and challenging.
